Dog walking opportunities.

There are so many dog walking opportunities in the area that Croft Holidays makes a great venue to come with your 4 legged friends. Whether you like going through woodland, along rivers, or up hills, all of these are possible! The composite photo shows a variety of options that are possible from the door or from Kingussie 3 miles away. And now we have a dog of our own we are in an ideal position to advise on these!

The cottages are located just off the Wildcat Trail, a signposted 8 mile route round the village of Newtonmore. The upper portion goes through woodland and along the wild Calder tributary. The lower section runs beside the wide Spey river, which provides lots of swimming opportunities. Our dog Pippa, shown, often goes in 4 or 5 times along that section of river!

If mountains or hills are more your thing then Creag Bheag above Kingussie offers outstanding views, and there are good paths up from Kingussie. The main photo shows the view down towards loch Gynack. We recommend starting in either Newtonmore or Kingussie and walking right through to the other village/town over the summit.

There are plenty of woodland areas too which provide good dog walking opportunities for wet (and other) days. And of course heather moorland too. You just need to pay attention to the fact that there may be nesting birds on the moorland in Spring so dogs are best kept on lead in those areas. And of course near lambing sheep too.

The cottages are all dog friendly, we allow up to 2 dogs, 3 on request if not too big! We also have a new dog playing area in the garden which is fully fenced and rabbit proof. It is however only 4-5 feet high so a few dogs will still be able to jump it.
